Missions Team Yard Sale Volunteers

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering at the yard sale! Without volunteers like you this would not be possible. It will be a day full of fun and helping those in need! There are lots of ways you can help, whether for an hour or for the whole weekend. Simply browse through the list below, then sign up on the sheet in the Narthex or contact Brenda at missions@spalutheran.org.

Promotion - Pre Sale Activities

  • Advertising - Saratoga Today
  • Facebook – posting announcements and reminders
  • Volunteer T Shirts – Design and source T-shirt
  • Posters and distribution – Create poster and organize distribution
  • Signage – Create simple Yard Sale and Food concession signs

Intake - Friday, Sept. 30 - afternoon/evening

  • Setup Intake area and sales area
    • Intake area in back parking lot, one-way traffic
    • Sales area – setup tables, gather tarps and materials
  • Drop Off of donations
    • Greet people dropping off donations
    • Move boxes and items to back of parking lot
    • Direct cars out of drop-off area
  • Sorting 
    • Examine boxes and items in drop-off
    • Sort items by category
  • Transport 
    • Move sale items to side yard area
    • Organize sale items by category on tables

Security - Friday, Sept. 30, or Saturday, Oct. 1

  • Sale area security
    • Monitoring of sale items in sale area Friday evening
  • Cash drops
    • Day of sale, assist in monitoring cash
    • Move cash drops from sale yard into secure location

Food Concession - Saturday, Oct. 1

  • Prep Concession
    • Purchase breakfast items for volunteers
    • Purchase and organize food for sale
    • Setup condiments and other food items
  • Run Concession
    • Day of sale, cook hamburgers and hot dogs
    • Wait on customers, manage cash
    • Maintain clean work areas and stock items

Yard Sale - Saturday, Oct. 1

  • Complete Sales
    • Help visitors with purchases
    • Bag purchases for visitors
  • Cashier and Checkout
    • Cashier at table to finalize sales

Post Sale

  • Clean Up Day of Sale
    • Move unsold items to curb and mark as FREE
    • Post notice on Facebook that items are available at curb
  • Clean Up Sunday
    • Move any remaining items to dumpster/garage
